Qigong

The word qigong is made up of “Qi”, which means “life-force” (and is spelled as “chi” in this course as this is more accepted western practice) and “gong” (pronounced “gung”,) meaning skill or accomplishment.
The benefits of Qigong echo those of Tai Chi itself and include:
 
  • Becoming more mindful: the mindfulness, focus and concentration you use during qigong help you to attune to your body and to discover areas of tension, stress or relaxation.
 
  • Focus: the slow, meditative and repetitive movements with a single point of concentration and total absorption improve the mind's ability to focus.
 
  • Improved breathing: energy development and practice stems in part from correct breathing: full rather than shallow; abdominal breathing rather than that from the chest: quiet, effortless and flowing rather than loud and feeling like hard work.
